Tata Motors has secured orders for more than 3,400 electric commercial vehicles (eCVs) across freight, logistics, and passenger mobility segments, underscoring the accelerating adoption of electric mobility in India’s commercial transport sector.

The orders comprise approximately 2,000 electric small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-ups, nearly 900 electric trucks, and around 500 electric buses. These vehicles are set to be deployed across a wide range of industries, including e-commerce, logistics, FMCG and FMCD distribution, mining, steel, cement operations, and both inter-city and intra-city passenger transportation.

According to the company, the scale and diversity of the new orders highlight growing customer confidence in electric commercial mobility solutions and signal a shift from pilot deployments to mainstream adoption.

“Electric mobility in commercial vehicles is moving from early adoption to large-scale deployment in India, with applications expanding across multiple segments and operating environments,” Tata Motors said in a statement.

Over the past year, the company has strengthened its electric commercial vehicle portfolio with models such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV, and Intra EV in the small commercial vehicle category, along with the Ultra EV range, Prima EV 55T tractor, and Prima EV 28T tipper for medium and heavy-duty applications.

In the passenger transport segment, Tata Motors offers the Starbus EV and Ultra EV bus platforms, catering to urban and inter-city mobility requirements.

The company noted that more than 3,800 electric buses are currently operating across various Indian cities, collectively covering over 550 million kilometres, while its fleet of electric SCVs has surpassed 17,000 vehicles on Indian roads.

To support wider EV adoption, Tata Motors has built an integrated ecosystem that includes partnerships with over 14 charge point operators, dedicated EV financing solutions, fleet management services, and uptime assurance programmes aimed at improving operational efficiency for fleet operators.

The latest order win further strengthens Tata Motors’ position in India’s rapidly growing electric commercial vehicle market as businesses increasingly seek sustainable and cost-efficient transportation solutions.
