The Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) has urged the Tamil Nadu Government to establish sustainable integrated apparel parks in Tiruppur under the Central Government’s BHAVYA scheme, while also seeking policy support for worker welfare and relief for dyeing units during a consultative meeting organised by the South India Mills’ Association (SIMA).

The consultation brought together representatives of textile industry associations from Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode districts with Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce, Keerthana, to discuss key issues affecting the textile and apparel sector.

Addressing the meeting, the Joint Secretary of the Tiruppur Exporters’ Association highlighted that the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) signed by the Government of India with several countries offer significant opportunities to expand Tiruppur’s exports. He stressed that sustainable and environmentally responsible manufacturing would be the key driver of future global competitiveness.

The Association urged the State Government to establish sustainable integrated apparel parks across Tamil Nadu under the BHAVYA scheme, with Tiruppur receiving priority owing to its position as India’s leading knitwear export hub.

The TEA also highlighted the need for large-scale housing facilities for migrant workers and quality educational infrastructure for their children, stating that these measures are essential to ensure the long-term availability and welfare of the industry’s workforce.

Raising concerns over the financial burden on textile processing units, the Association pointed out that several dyeing units had made significant investments by borrowing funds to install Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems in compliance with environmental regulations. While acknowledging the Tamil Nadu Government’s support through ₹200 crore in interest-free loans, the Association requested that these loans be converted into grants as a special policy measure, considering the substantial environmental benefits delivered by the industry.

Responding to the industry’s concerns, Minister Keerthana reportedly took detailed notes of the recommendations and assured participants that the issues would be discussed with the Chief Minister and the concerned government departments to facilitate appropriate policy interventions and faster resolution.

She also underscored the importance of continued collaboration between the government and industry in achieving the Chief Minister’s vision of transforming Tamil Nadu into a US$1.5 trillion economy.

Industry representatives reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the State’s industrial development agenda and strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position as a globally competitive manufacturing and export destination through sustainable growth and continued investment.
