As India enters the festive season, logistics and warehousing companies are stepping up operations to meet a sharp spike in e-commerce demand. Industry experts expect sales to rise by 25 per cent over last year, driving a 40 per cent surge in warehousing demand.
According to Anuj Kejriwal, MD & CEO – Retail, Warehousing & Logistics, ANAROCK Group, e-commerce majors are collectively creating over 360,000 seasonal jobs in supply chain operations, with one leading player alone accounting for two-thirds of these additions. “India’s warehousing stock has crossed 500 million sq ft, and more than 640 new delivery hubs are being added in tier-II and tier-III cities,” he said.
Highlighting the changing consumption patterns, Anshul Singhal, MD, Welspun One, noted that festive logistics is no longer about one-time stocking but about high-frequency, seamless deliveries across multiple city nodes. Welspun One is expanding capacity in consumption hubs, including city-centre and port-adjacent locations, using a data-led, flexible warehousing approach.
Ramnath Subramaniam, JMD, TVS ILP, said their Grade-A parks allow scalable and customisable models for brands to expand during peaks, supported by additional power loads for extra conveyors, forklifts and trailers.
Meanwhile, Mahindra Logistics Ltd is creating over 0.8 million sq ft of temporary warehousing capacity, adding 50 new delivery stations, expanding reach to 500 new pin codes, and onboarding around 10,000 additional workforce. “Our 6,000-vehicle last-mile fleet ensures efficient handling of festive volumes,” said Hemant Sikka, MD & CEO.
The buoyant trend is already visible. Unicommerce, a leading e-commerce enablement SaaS platform, reported a 24 per cent jump in order volumes and 27 per cent growth in gross merchandise value during pre-Rakshabandhan sales this year compared to 2024.
With rising consumption, expanding warehousing infrastructure, and tech-driven supply chains, the logistics sector is gearing up to deliver one of the busiest festive seasons yet.
