Apeejay Shipping, a leading player in India’s maritime industry and part of the Apeejay Surrendra Group, has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of two advanced Kamsarmax bulk carriers — APJ Priya 2 and APJ Priti 2.
Built in Japan and equipped with modern scrubber technology, the refurbished vessels were inducted into the fleet in July and August this year. The ships, named after Group Chairman Karan Paul’s sisters, are successors to the historic APJ Priya (1967) and APJ Priti (1977), which played a pioneering role in shaping Apeejay Shipping’s reputation in global trade.
With these additions, Apeejay Shipping’s fleet has grown to nine vessels, comprising Kamsarmax, Panamax, and Supramax carriers, with a combined deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 666,911. All vessels in the fleet meet ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certification standards.
“These acquisitions are not just about adding capacity. They are integral to our long-term strategy and reflect our commitment to high-quality tonnage, operational excellence, and sustainable growth,” said Karan Paul, Chairman of Apeejay Surrendra Group. “We have thrived by blending heritage with forward-thinking strategies and aim to play an even stronger role in India’s evolving maritime economy.”
Apeejay Shipping CEO Sumant Ahlawat added, “These robust and well-maintained acquisitions are made during a period of positive market fundamentals and enhanced demand for dry bulk shipping.”
The expansion comes amid a global surge in dry bulk shipping demand, providing Apeejay Shipping with stronger capacity to serve both domestic and international markets.
