Thirty-eight wagons of a goods train carrying food grains derailed near New Sri Madhopur station on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) late Tuesday night, causing significant disruption to operations along the corridor.
According to sources, the derailment occurred at 11:05 pm, and preliminary reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by a collision with cattle that strayed onto the tracks. The train’s crew reportedly escaped unharmed.
“The train was moving at a high speed when the loco pilot spotted the cattle and tried to stop, but could not halt in time. Operations have been severely hampered, and all top officials of the DFCCIL are on-site to restore services quickly,” a DFCC source said.
The train, which was carrying food grains in covered wagons from Hadiya in Punjab to western India, derailed on the up line, with several wagons falling onto the adjacent down line, blocking traffic in both directions. As a result, train services on both lines remain suspended until the site is cleared.
Sri Madhopur station, where the accident occurred, is located approximately 75 km from Phulera station in Rajasthan. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Authorities are currently assessing the situation and working to restore normal operations along the corridor.’
