Ship management major Anglo-Eastern has launched a new digital solution aimed at helping vessel charterers and commercial operators navigate the maritime decarbonization landscape through data-driven insights.
The tool, known as Sustainability and Performance Services (SAPS), is designed to enhance fuel efficiency, route optimization and regulatory compliance while promoting maritime sustainability. It supports adherence to a wide range of environmental frameworks including the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), FuelEU Maritime, and the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII).
According to the company, SAPS integrates multiple service categories such as crew training, vessel performance monitoring, ship inspections and optimization, AI-powered performance forecasting, charter-specific performance contracts, paint performance advisory, and environmental and compliance audits.
The solution has already been tested across Anglo-Eastern’s managed fleet, which includes bulk carriers, wind-assisted tankers, containerships, ammonia-ready dual-fuel ships and other vessel types.
Between 2023 and 2025, the systems underlying SAPS monitored over 800 ships across 46,000 voyages, delivering significant results:
Over 700,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions reduced
More than 225,000 metric tonnes of fuel saved
Approximately $135 million in cost savings
The launch comes as digitalization accelerates across the maritime sector, with technologies such as AI, data analytics, IoT, blockchain and automation being increasingly integrated to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
Globally, regulators are also moving in this direction. In March, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) confirmed it is developing a comprehensive digitalization strategy to support efficiency, safety and sustainability in shipping. This strategy builds on initiatives like the mandatory Maritime Single Window, which requires ports and vessels to use a unified digital platform for data exchange and port call procedures.
The IMO is expected to finalize and adopt the digital strategy by 2027, signaling a clear shift toward technology-driven transformation in the global maritime industry. Anglo-Eastern’s SAPS launch aligns with this trajectory, positioning the company as an early mover in digital decarbonization solutions for commercial shipping.
