A landmark Indo-French collaboration is set to redefine India’s logistics ecosystem, as Transport Corporation of India Limited (TCI) has entered into a strategic partnership with FLYING WHALES and its operational arm FLYING WHALES SERVICES to explore next-generation cargo airship operations in India.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalised on the sidelines of the official summit between Emmanuel Macron and Narendra Modi, underscoring deepening industrial and technological cooperation between France and India.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Vineet Agarwal, Managing Director of TCI; Rajkiran Kanagala, Chief Business Officer at TCI; and Sébastien Bougon, President of FLYING WHALES and FLYING WHALES SERVICES.

Under the collaboration, TCI will work with the French group to assess the deployment of the LCA60T rigid cargo airship in the Indian market. Designed to transport payloads of up to 60 tonnes, the airship can operate without conventional ground infrastructure and is capable of loading and unloading cargo while in stationary flight. This makes it particularly suitable for accessing remote, mountainous, forested, or infrastructure-deficient regions.

The companies said the aircraft’s heavy-lift capability, combined with reduced carbon emissions compared to traditional transport modes, could significantly enhance the movement of oversized and mission-critical cargo. The partnership will also explore the development of new logistics frameworks and the strengthening of existing infrastructure to support high-value industrial and infrastructure projects.

“TCI has consistently partnered with leading global and domestic organisations to deliver advanced logistics solutions,” said Vineet Agarwal. “FLYING WHALES’ innovative technology can provide efficient, low-carbon access to the remotest locations, helping accelerate multimodal connectivity across the country.”

Sébastien Bougon described the agreement as a milestone in the French group’s international expansion. “Marking our first strategic partnership in India, this collaboration with TCI is a pivotal step in FLYING WHALES’ global growth. By combining our LCA60T technology — the world’s only solution for heavy-lift transport without ground infrastructure — with TCI’s logistical expertise, we are providing a tangible response to India’s connectivity and ecological transition challenges,” he said.

Industry observers note that the partnership reflects growing interest in alternative freight technologies as India pushes for more sustainable, flexible and infrastructure-light logistics solutions to support rapid economic growth and large-scale infrastructure development.
