JSW Infrastructure has commenced commercial operations at its Arakkonam Cargo Terminal, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s multimodal logistics network and improving cargo movement efficiency.

Located in Arakkonam, the terminal is strategically positioned to serve key industrial hubs in southern India, offering seamless connectivity between ports, rail, and road transport systems. The facility is expected to play a vital role in streamlining cargo flows and reducing transit times for both domestic and EXIM shipments.

The company said the terminal is equipped with modern handling infrastructure designed to manage a wide range of cargo, including containerized goods, bulk commodities, and industrial materials. Its integration with rail networks is expected to enhance hinterland connectivity and ease congestion at major ports.

Industry experts view the development as part of a broader push toward improving logistics efficiency in India, where high transportation costs have historically been a challenge. By enabling smoother cargo aggregation and distribution, the Arakkonam terminal is likely to support supply chain optimization for manufacturers and exporters.

The project aligns with national initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure and reducing logistics costs as a percentage of GDP. Increased private sector participation, such as that of JSW Infrastructure, is seen as critical to achieving these goals.

With the launch of operations, the company is expected to expand its logistics footprint further, leveraging integrated solutions to cater to growing demand across industries while contributing to the modernization of India’s supply chain ecosystem.
