DHL has warned customers of potential shipment delays as an ongoing haulage strike in Italy threatens to disrupt road freight movements and supply chains across the country.
The strike by trucking and transport workers is expected to affect cargo pickups, linehaul services, port connectivity, and last-mile deliveries, creating bottlenecks for domestic and cross-border shipments. Major industrial regions and logistics corridors could face the strongest impact if disruptions continue.
DHL said contingency plans are being activated to minimise delays, including route adjustments, network reallocation, and close coordination with customers. However, the company noted that service interruptions may be unavoidable in areas heavily dependent on road transport.
Italy plays a critical role in European freight networks, linking Mediterranean ports with manufacturing centres across the continent. Any prolonged stoppage could ripple through wider European supply chains, especially for automotive, retail, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods sectors.
Industry observers said the strike highlights ongoing labour pressures in Europe’s transport sector, where rising costs, wage disputes, and regulatory concerns have triggered periodic industrial action.
Customers have been advised to plan for extended transit times and monitor shipment updates until normal operations resume.
