Akkon Lines has expanded its East Africa Service (EAS) by adding Mogadishu to its port rotation, strengthening regional maritime connectivity and enhancing cargo transport options for customers trading with East Africa. The move is expected to improve access to Somalia’s growing market while supporting more efficient container movements across the region.
The inclusion of Mogadishu in the EAS route will provide exporters, importers, and logistics providers with improved service coverage and greater flexibility in planning shipments. The enhanced network is designed to facilitate the movement of a broad range of cargo, including consumer goods, construction materials, agricultural products, and industrial equipment.
According to the company, the expanded service reflects its commitment to meeting rising customer demand and strengthening its presence in key regional trade corridors. By extending the route, Akkon Lines aims to offer more reliable transit schedules, optimise vessel deployment, and improve overall service efficiency.
Industry observers noted that Mogadishu’s strategic location on the Horn of Africa is increasing its importance in regional trade, with ongoing investments in port infrastructure and logistics supporting higher cargo volumes. The additional port call is expected to improve connectivity between Somalia and major transshipment hubs, creating new opportunities for businesses engaged in international commerce.
The extension of the EAS route underscores Akkon Lines’ strategy of expanding its regional shipping network while providing dependable and cost-effective logistics solutions. The company expects the enhanced service to strengthen supply chain resilience and support continued trade growth across East Africa.
