The India–Sri Lanka Trade Connect, hosted by the High Commission of India in Colombo on July 9, 2026, brought together the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) multi-product business delegation and leading Sri Lankan business chambers to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations.
The event served as a platform for strategic dialogue, business networking, and collaboration, with participation from exporters, importers, industry leaders, and trade promotion organizations from both countries.
A key highlight of the programme was the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FIEO and the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) of Sri Lanka, aimed at deepening economic cooperation and creating new opportunities for businesses in both nations.
The MoU seeks to:
Strengthen bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
Promote business-to-business (B2B) collaboration.
Create new opportunities for exporters from India and Sri Lanka.
Build long-term strategic partnerships between the two countries.
Addressing the gathering, Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, appreciated FIEO’s initiative in leading the business delegation and emphasized the importance of sustained engagement between the two countries’ business communities. He proposed organizing a follow-up FIEO business delegation within the next six months to convert ongoing discussions into concrete business partnerships.
The event also highlighted upcoming trade opportunities in India. Mr. Rohit Tejpal, Deputy Director, FIEO, presented the 4th Edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS 2026) through a dedicated roadshow, inviting Sri Lankan buyers, importers, and business leaders to participate in one of India’s largest trade exhibitions.
The presentation showcased the scale of the event, which will feature over 2,400 exhibitors representing a wide range of sectors from Uttar Pradesh. The invitation received an encouraging response from the Sri Lankan business community, reflecting growing interest in expanding commercial partnerships and sourcing opportunities from India.
The India–Sri Lanka Trade Connect reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthening economic ties, enhancing export cooperation, and fostering sustainable business partnerships through continued engagement between industry stakeholders.
