By comprehensively digitalising the release process, logistics software service providers DAKOSY and dbh Logistics IT AG will increase the security of goods receipt through German seaports, while simultaneously providing effective protection against drug imports and organised crime through German seaports, reports the Port of Hamburg in an official release.
The key to this, the port explains, is the digitalisation of the entire release process by means of a ‘Secure Release Order’.
This way, from the moment the container arrives at the seaport until it is collected by the transport company, it is always clear who can dispose of the container.
A container can only be released by one authorised party to another, who also has the relevant authorisation. Each participant digitally hands over the “right of collection” to the next person in the transport chain.
This procedure will gradually replace the PIN codes previously used in German ports.
The initiators DAKOSY and dbh plan to start the introductory phase in the second half of this year.
The new process involves all actors in the transport chain, including shipping companies, terminals, forwarders, and transport companies. Communication is no longer direct, but encrypted through the German Ports IT platform, which DAKOSY and dbh jointly operate.
The IT platform makes it possible to check at any time who is authorised to take a container.
