Uganda Airlines has placed an order for two converted freighter aircraft from Boeing, marking a significant step in the carrier’s efforts to expand its cargo capabilities and strengthen its position in the regional air freight market.
The aircraft will be converted from passenger jets into dedicated freighters, enabling Uganda Airlines to transport larger volumes of cargo and serve growing demand for air freight services across Africa and international markets. The move reflects the airline’s strategy to diversify revenue streams and capitalize on rising trade and e-commerce activity.
Industry observers note that dedicated freighter aircraft provide greater flexibility for handling a wide range of shipments, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, industrial goods, and express cargo. The addition of freighters is expected to enhance Uganda Airlines’ ability to support exporters and importers seeking reliable air cargo connections.
The order also underscores the growing role of passenger-to-freighter conversion programs in the aviation industry. Airlines worldwide are increasingly turning to converted aircraft as a cost-effective way to expand cargo capacity while meeting evolving logistics requirements.
For Uganda Airlines, the acquisition is expected to strengthen connectivity between East Africa and key global trade hubs, supporting economic activity and facilitating the movement of goods across regional and international supply chains.
The new freighters are anticipated to play an important role in the airline’s long-term growth plans, reinforcing its commitment to developing a stronger presence in the competitive air cargo sector.
