The Bangladesh national news media reported a collision between two bulk carriers at the outer anchorage of CHITTAGONG Port.

On September 07, at around 2 PM local time, bulk carrier NAVIOS CELESTIAL anchor dragged and collided with FRIENDLY ISLANDS.

NAVIOS CELESTIAL is a Panama-registered bulk carrier loaded with 44000 tons of DAP fertilizers, while Liberian-flagged bulk carrier FRIENDLY ISLANDS was carrying 27000 tons of lentils at the time of the incident.

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) stated that the vessels sustained minor damage, with no water ingress reported. All the crewmembers aboard both vessels were safe, and no pollution was observed. The authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision of the two bulk carriers.

The CPA stated that both bulk carriers have shifted their anchor position and are currently anchored safely. The CPA Secretary informed that the local agents and the Protection & Indemnity (P&I) representing both vessels are already involved in handling the compensation and settling the legal liabilities.
