Global shipping major CMA CGM has announced immediate operational adjustments in response to the evolving security situation in the Middle East and restrictions on maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
Reiterating that the safety and security of its crew remain its foremost priority, the company confirmed that all vessels currently inside the Gulf region, as well as those bound for Gulf ports, have been instructed to proceed to designated shelter areas with immediate effect.
In a significant move, CMA CGM has also suspended vessel transits through the Suez Canal until further notice. Affected services will be rerouted via the Cape of Good Hope, a longer but safer alternative passage.
The carrier stated that it is taking all necessary measures to safeguard its vessels and protect customers’ cargo during this period of heightened geopolitical uncertainty. Customers with impacted shipments will be contacted directly once further clarity emerges regarding alternative discharge ports.
According to the company, the decision has been taken purely on safety grounds and is in line with the terms and conditions outlined in its Bill of Lading. CMA CGM has published an initial list of impacted vessels and assured stakeholders that further updates will be shared on its official website as more information becomes available.
The development underscores the growing impact of regional instability on global shipping routes, with carriers increasingly prioritizing crew safety and cargo security amid rising risks in key maritime corridors.
