Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), the world’s largest office complex with 68,17,050 sq ft space with a total number of 4,200 offices, will get dedicated customs house. The customs department has given the formal approval for this.

A team of 19 officials has been sanctioned for this customs house. The team will include one assistant or deputy commissioner-rank officer, four superintendents, eight inspectors, two tax assistants and four havildars.

The team will handle all export and import activities at SDB. These officials will be allocated when the customs houses office starts operating.

At present, a customs house is operational in Katargam where most of the diamond and jewellery export and import activities are handled. A separate customs house was demanded for SDB keeping in mind the number of diamond and jewellery business offices there.

The customs house with a space of 40,000 sq ft is being developed on SDB the campus. It will be part of a separate structure from the main office complex. The facility is being developed with plan for expansion in future.

The city’s diamond and jewellery industry hopes that SDB will be a major trading hub where all connecting business facilities.

SDB officials claim that almost all the offices there have been sold out and a good number of them will be operational by November.

SDB is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December
