Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, has invited a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the Development, Operation and Maintenance of Berth No. 15 and 16 for handling multipurpose cargo (clean cargo) and containers at Kandla Port. The project will be implemented on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
The proposed development marks a significant milestone in DPA’s efforts to augment cargo handling capacity, improve operational efficiency, and attract private sector expertise and investment in port infrastructure. By modernising Berths 15 and 16, the port aims to cater to growing demand for clean cargo and containerised trade, while ensuring faster turnaround times and enhanced service quality.
Under the RFQ process, interested and eligible private players are invited to demonstrate their technical capability, financial strength and experience in developing and operating similar port infrastructure projects. Shortlisted bidders will be invited to participate in the subsequent Request for Proposal (RFP) stage.
Strategically located on India’s west coast, Kandla Port is one of the country’s major gateways for international trade, serving the hinterlands of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and northern India. The development of dedicated multipurpose and container-handling facilities at Berths 15 and 16 is expected to further strengthen the port’s competitiveness, support growing EXIM trade, and align with the Government of India’s vision of port-led development under the Sagarmala Programme.
The project also reinforces the Centre’s continued focus on PPP-led port modernisation, leveraging private sector efficiency, advanced technology and global best practices, while ensuring optimal utilisation of public assets.
With the RFQ issuance, Deendayal Port Authority has taken another decisive step towards expanding capacity, enhancing operational efficiency and contributing to India’s long-term maritime and logistics growth story.
