Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has achieved a major milestone in India’s logistics sector by becoming the first Container Train Operator (CTO) to run a double-stack container train on the newly completed Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) from Nhava Sheva to its Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Garhi Harsaru, Gurgaon.

The inaugural train was loaded at PSA’s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT), marking a significant advancement in double-stack rail connectivity between Nhava Sheva and the National Capital Region (NCR). The service is expected to enhance the efficiency of container movement along one of India’s busiest freight corridors.

With its pan-India rail operating license, Gateway Distriparks is well positioned to expand double-stack container train services from Nhava Sheva to key inland destinations. As these services become regular, they are expected to contribute to the national objective of increasing rail-based freight movement, reducing road congestion, lowering logistics costs, and improving the environmental sustainability of India’s supply chains.

The company acknowledged the support of Indian Railways, DFCCIL, and PSA in enabling the successful operation of this landmark service, which underscores the growing capabilities of India’s dedicated freight infrastructure and multimodal logistics network.
