Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), a subsidiary of Bharat Forge Ltd, to jointly develop and promote indigenous solutions for advanced naval systems, unmanned platforms and strategic maritime capabilities for domestic and global markets.

The MoU, signed on March 5, 2026, aims to strengthen India’s push for self-reliance in defence and maritime technology by leveraging the complementary strengths of both organisations.

The partnership will focus on developing indigenous solutions across a wide spectrum of maritime and defence systems. These include ship propulsion and mechanical systems for naval and commercial vessels, integrated platform management systems, steering and stabilizer assemblies, deck equipment, as well as unmanned platforms such as Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs). The collaboration will also explore opportunities in India and select international markets.

The agreement was signed by Shantanu Bose, Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE, and Ajay Sharma, Vice President – Marine Systems, Bharat Forge Ltd.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of P R Hari, Chairman and Managing Director of GRSE; Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd; Niranjan Bhalerao, Director (Finance), GRSE; and M Venkatesh Murthy, Executive Director (Commercial Shipbuilding & Supply Chain Management), along with senior officials from both organisations.

The collaboration is expected to combine GRSE’s extensive shipbuilding and maritime engineering expertise with KSSL’s capabilities as a defence original equipment manufacturer in designing and manufacturing advanced defence platforms and systems.

The initiative is also aligned with the government’s push for Atmanirbhar Bharat, promoting indigenisation, technological collaboration and enhanced capabilities in defence and maritime systems.
