India’s tea exports registered strong growth during FY26, with export value surging 93% year-on-year to ₹8,719 crore, reflecting rising global demand for Indian tea varieties across key international markets. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the performance highlights the growing global acceptance of India’s premium tea products and the sector’s expanding export potential.

According to government data, higher shipments of orthodox and specialty teas, along with improved realization in overseas markets, supported the sharp rise in export earnings during the fiscal year. Industry stakeholders noted that demand remained firm in regions including West Asia, Europe, the CIS countries and North America.

The minister said India’s tea industry has benefited from sustained quality improvements, branding initiatives and efforts to diversify export destinations. Exporters have also focused on value-added products and premium packaging to strengthen India’s position in the global tea trade.

Industry bodies stated that favorable international prices and increased consumer preference for wellness and specialty beverages contributed to the strong export momentum. The sector is also witnessing higher interest in organic, green and specialty teas from overseas buyers.

India remains one of the world’s leading tea producers and exporters, with Assam, Darjeeling, Nilgiri and other regional varieties continuing to attract strong demand in global markets.
