India has summoned Mohammad Fathali after a firing incident involving an Indian vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating diplomatic tensions amid growing instability in the strategically vital shipping corridor. New Delhi conveyed strong concern over the episode and called for the safety of merchant shipping and Indian seafarers.

According to reports, two Indian-flagged vessels came under fire while attempting to transit the narrow waterway, a critical route for global oil and cargo movements. No casualties were reported, but the incident forced vessels to alter course, raising fresh concerns over maritime security in the Gulf region.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs reportedly urged Iranian authorities to ensure the safe passage of India-bound ships and restore confidence in commercial navigation through the strait. The waterway is crucial for India, which imports a significant share of its crude oil and energy supplies through the Gulf.

The incident comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia, where disruptions to shipping lanes have already impacted freight rates, insurance costs, and trade planning. Any sustained threat to movement through the Strait of Hormuz could have broader implications for global energy markets and regional supply chains.

Analysts said India’s swift diplomatic response underlines the strategic importance it places on maritime security, especially in chokepoints that directly affect its trade and energy interests. Further developments are expected as Tehran reviews New Delhi’s protest and assesses the circumstances surrounding the firing incident.
