Continuing its commitment to environmentally friendly operations, AtoB@C Shipping, a unit of ESL Shipping, has taken delivery of the newbuild Maximar on December 20th in Goa, India. This marks a significant milestone for the company, representing the fifth plug-in hybrid vessel to join their fleet since the arrival of the Electramar in December 2023.

The Maximar delivery signifies the halfway point of AtoB@C’s ambitious newbuilding program. Just days before the Maximar’s arrival, the company launched the sixth vessel, Terramar, scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2025.

AtoB@C has placed an order for a total of twelve 5,350 deadweight tonnage (dwt) plug-in hybrid vessels from Chowgule & Company, with deliveries planned on a quarterly basis until autumn 2026. This strategic fleet renewal program underscores AtoB@C’s dedication to sustainable practices within the shipping industry.

Similar to its operational sister vessels, the Maximar boasts a hybrid propulsion system and shore power connectivity. Designed for efficient and environmentally conscious operations throughout the year in the Baltic Sea and Northern Europe, the Maximar boasts a 1A ice class rating and a deadweight tonnage of 5,400. Notably, the integration of battery technology enables emission-free and quiet port visits, contributing to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions per cargo unit – nearly 50% lower compared to the company’s current generation of vessels.

By prioritizing eco-friendly technology and reducing its environmental footprint, AtoB@C Shipping aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable shortsea cargo transportation.
