India’s smartphone exports have reached a record ₹2.59 lakh crore, marking an extraordinary 165-fold increase over the past decade and underscoring the country’s emergence as a major global electronics manufacturing hub. The remarkable growth has been driven by government incentives, expanding production capacities, and increasing participation by global smartphone manufacturers in India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

The surge reflects the success of initiatives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which has encouraged leading global brands and their contract manufacturers to establish and expand production facilities across the country. Improved infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and a strengthening component supply chain have also contributed to India’s growing competitiveness in the global smartphone market.

Industry analysts note that smartphones have become one of India’s fastest-growing export categories, with shipments to key markets including the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and other regions increasing significantly. The rise in exports has helped diversify India’s export basket while strengthening its position in global electronics value chains.

The rapid expansion has also generated substantial employment opportunities across manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and ancillary industries. Investments in new production facilities and supplier networks have supported the development of a broader electronics ecosystem, encouraging greater localisation of components and value addition within the country.

The government aims to further boost electronics exports by expanding domestic manufacturing capabilities, attracting additional foreign investment, and strengthening semiconductor and component production. With sustained policy support and rising global demand, India is expected to continue its transformation into a leading global manufacturing and export base for smartphones and other electronic products.
