Maersk has expanded its AE1 Asia–Europe service by adding a direct call at the Port of Antwerp, strengthening connectivity between key Asian hubs and Northern Europe.
The inclusion of Antwerp in the AE1 loop is expected to enhance schedule flexibility and provide customers with improved access to one of Europe’s largest container gateways. The move supports growing demand for efficient and reliable transport links across the Asia–Europe trade corridor.
According to industry sources, the updated rotation will allow Maersk to optimise cargo flows into Belgium and neighbouring markets, including Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Antwerp’s strong hinterland connectivity via rail, barge, and road networks is anticipated to further streamline inland distribution.
The AE1 service is a core component of Maersk’s Asia–Europe network, typically deploying large container vessels to handle high cargo volumes. By adding Antwerp, Maersk aims to enhance network resilience, reduce congestion risks at other ports, and offer customers greater routing options.
The expansion comes amid evolving trade patterns and shifting supply chain strategies, as carriers seek to balance efficiency with flexibility. With Antwerp now part of the AE1 loop, shippers are expected to benefit from improved transit reliability and broader market reach across Europe.
