New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has achieved a notable milestone by surpassing its annual cargo handling target of 48.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) set by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The port recorded a total cargo throughput of 48.54 MMT as of March 24, 2026, exceeding the benchmark ahead of the close of the financial year.
This accomplishment highlights NMPA’s sustained operational efficiency, improved cargo handling capabilities, and strong collaboration with stakeholders across the maritime and logistics ecosystem. The achievement is particularly significant amid evolving global trade dynamics, demonstrating the port’s resilience and adaptability.
Officials at NMPA attributed the success to the collective efforts of port users, shipping lines, terminal operators, and trade partners, whose coordinated approach has enabled enhanced productivity and streamlined operations. The port has also focused on infrastructure upgrades, digital initiatives, and process optimisation to boost turnaround times and overall efficiency.
Over the past year, NMPA has handled a diverse mix of cargo, including crude oil, petroleum products, fertilizers, coal, containers, and other bulk commodities. Strategic initiatives aimed at capacity augmentation and customer-centric services have further supported cargo growth and strengthened the port’s competitiveness.
The milestone reinforces NMPA’s position as one of India’s fast-growing maritime gateways, playing a crucial role in facilitating trade in the region. It also aligns with the broader vision of the government to enhance port-led development and improve logistics efficiency under national maritime initiatives.
With this achievement, NMPA is well-positioned to build on its growth momentum in the coming fiscal year, continuing to contribute significantly to India’s trade expansion and economic development.
