The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) is poised for another strong performance following a record-breaking fiscal year, having achieved its highest-ever cargo throughput of 50 million tonnes in FY26, marking an 8% year-on-year growth.

NMPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh shared the update during a business interaction with the Export-Import (EXIM) trade community held in Mysuru on Sunday. He attributed the milestone to sustained collaboration across the port ecosystem, including exporters, traders, industry stakeholders, and government agencies.

“This has only been possible because of the support and contribution from all the stakeholders here,” Singh said, expressing gratitude for their continued cooperation and urging further partnership to sustain the momentum.

The meeting brought together key players from the trade and logistics sector to review NMPA’s performance and discuss its future roadmap. Singh said the session also helped the port present its long-term vision and gather feedback from users.

He highlighted that NMPA’s development strategy aligns with national initiatives such as Viksit Bharat 2047 and the Maritime India Vision 2030, which aim to position India as a global maritime leader.

Outlining ongoing initiatives, Singh pointed to capacity augmentation, automation, and mechanisation as core focus areas. He said these upgrades are intended to improve efficiency and build confidence among stakeholders about the port’s future growth trajectory.

Looking ahead, Singh expressed optimism that the port would continue its strong performance. “We are going to set a very ambitious target for this port… I’m sure we will be able to touch a very high level of cargo throughput volumes,” he said, adding that the achievement would set a benchmark for similar ports.

He further noted that constructive feedback from the trade community would be incorporated into NMPA’s operational planning and development efforts. According to him, continued infrastructure upgrades will strengthen both user experience and India’s broader maritime competitiveness.

“We will find the results coming very soon,” Singh added, indicating that the growth momentum is expected to continue into the current fiscal year.
