The Network Planning Group (NPG) held its 97th meeting in Delhi on 23 July 2025 to evaluate five rail and road infrastructure projects from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the Ministry of Railways (MoR).

The meeting aimed to assess how these projects will improve multimodal connectivity, logistics efficiency, and regional transport under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan.

The NPG reviewed three highway projects and two railway projects. MoRTH presented the Dwarka Tunnel, the Patna-Purnia Motorway, and the widening of the Suratgarh-Sri Ganganagar stretch. These projects target faster freight movement, better connectivity to industrial hubs, and smoother cargo flows. The Dwarka Tunnel will connect NH-8 and the Dwarka Motorway to IGI Airport, easing traffic for commercial vehicles.

The Patna-Purnia Motorway will link airports and economic hubs across six districts to support industrial logistics. The Suratgarh-Sri Ganganagar widening will strengthen cargo transport near the western border and link agricultural and processing hubs to larger markets.

The Ministry of Railways presented the Baddi-Ghanauli new line and the Kanalus-Okha doubling. The Baddi-Ghanauli line will support freight and cargo flow for industrial clusters in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. The Kanalus-Okha doubling will improve freight corridor
capacity, supporting industrial supply chains and port access along Gujarat’s western coast.

All five projects aim to streamline freight operations, integrate multiple transport modes, and improve last-mile connectivity to key economic and industrial nodes.
