    A pilot project utilizing the geoFluxus Waste Profile Platform has elevated the circular economy in the Rotterdam port area to new heights.

    Sponsored by the Port of Rotterdam Authority, the initiative has enabled companies to enhance their waste management processes. Often, industrial waste is not processed optimally—for instance, being incinerated instead of recycled.

    To promote more sustainable waste handling, the TU Delft startup geoFluxus developed the innovative Waste Profile Platform. This tool was piloted with four companies generating significant residual waste streams, along with waste processing organizations in the Rotterdam port area.

    Moreover, the Waste Profile Platform provides companies with valuable insights into their waste streams by analyzing data from the National Waste Notification Bureau (LMA), eliminating the need for businesses to supply their data.

    In addition, the platform highlights opportunities to upgrade the quality of waste processing by comparing various methods based on three critical criteria: cost efficiency, sustainability, and CO2 emissions. These insights help companies achieve their circular economy targets while optimizing processing costs.

    This digital innovation represents a crucial step toward the success of future ports, as data-driven solutions play a pivotal role in advancing full circularity by 2050.
