Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Sunday inaugurated Phase II of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT) at Jawaharlal Nehru Port, making it India’s largest standalone container port.
Developed by Man Infraconstruction Ltd (MICL), the terminal spans 110 hectares with a 2,000-meter quay and an annual handling capacity of 4.8 million TEUs. The project, awarded to MICL in June 2023 through a competitive public-private partnership tender, represents a major expansion of India’s port infrastructure.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MLA Parag Shah joined the ceremony in Mumbai, while Singapore’s Prime Minister participated virtually.
The new facility integrates advanced green and multimodal infrastructure, aimed at enhancing India’s maritime trade efficiency and global connectivity. MICL Managing Director Manan P Shah hailed the project as a flagship development, reinforcing India’s position in global shipping.
MICL, with over six decades of experience in ports, roads, real estate, and commercial projects, reported a consolidated income of ₹1,360 crore and net profit of ₹300 crore in the last fiscal year.
