The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways of India has issued a cautionary advisory to Indian seafarers operating in the West Asia region, urging heightened vigilance amid ongoing geopolitical tensions that could affect maritime operations.
Officials highlighted that the evolving security situation in the region may impact shipping routes, port operations, and vessel schedules. Indian nationals working on commercial vessels are advised to maintain close communication with ship operators and follow safety protocols to minimize risks.
The ministry recommended that mariners stay updated on official notices from international shipping bodies, avoid high-risk areas where conflicts are active, and ensure all on-board security and safety measures are fully implemented.
Shipping industry experts said such advisories are routine in periods of heightened regional instability but stressed that vigilance is crucial given West Asia’s strategic importance for global trade, especially for oil, container, and bulk cargo shipments.
The ministry also encouraged shipping companies to plan voyages carefully, consider alternative routes where necessary, and coordinate with Indian consular authorities in the region to ensure crew safety.
This advisory comes as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the welfare of Indian seafarers, who constitute one of the largest overseas maritime workforces in the world.
