A ship was struck and damaged by an “unknown projectile” in the Red Sea, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre said this morning.
“The master of the vessel reports being hit by unknown projectile and the vessel has sustained damage, no fires or casualties reported,” the UKMTO said.
The Liberia-flagged chemical tanker, whose name has yet to be identified, has been targeted by the Houthis before.
According to Ambrey, a British maritime security specialist, the Greek-managed vessel was impacted on its starboard side 73 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen. The projectile struck the bridge, causing light damage with no crew injured. Approximately four hours later, two additional projectiles reportedly exploded near its port side.
More than 120 vessels have been targeted by the Houthis in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in their 11-month campaign against merchant shipping in support of Hamas and their ongoing war with Israel.
