The implementation of free trade agreements (FTAs) with the United Kingdom and the European Union is set to provide a significant boost to India’s toy industry by granting zero-duty market access for exports. The agreements are expected to enhance the global competitiveness of Indian toy manufacturers while creating new opportunities in two of the world’s largest consumer markets.
Duty-free access will make Indian toys more price competitive compared to products from countries that continue to face import tariffs. This is expected to drive higher export volumes, encourage manufacturers to expand production, and attract greater investment into the sector.
The FTAs also complement the Indian government’s efforts to transform the country into a global toy manufacturing hub through initiatives such as domestic production incentives, quality standards, and support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Manufacturers are increasingly focusing on innovation, sustainable materials, and internationally compliant safety standards to meet the evolving preferences of consumers in Europe and the UK.
Industry stakeholders believe the agreements will help diversify export destinations, strengthen supply chains, and improve the global visibility of Indian-made toys. As demand for high-quality, environmentally friendly products continues to grow, the zero-duty access offered under the UK and EU FTAs is expected to accelerate the expansion of India’s toy exports and reinforce the country’s position in the international toy market.
