As announced in the Union Budget 2026–27, the Government of India has unveiled key initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s logistics infrastructure and enhancing seamless port-to-hinterland connectivity.

A major highlight is the proposed Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) connecting Dankuni in the East to Surat in the West. This corridor is expected to significantly improve cargo evacuation efficiency, enhance access to major ports, and enable faster, more reliable movement of goods across regions.

In addition, the integration of National Waterway–5 (NW-5) with ports such as Paradeep and Dhamra will facilitate the movement of mineral and industrial cargo through inland waterways. This multimodal logistics approach is set to improve overall efficiency, reduce congestion on road and rail networks, and promote a more sustainable and resilient transportation ecosystem.
