The Biden-Harris Administration has announced plans to support the entire American shipbuilding supply chain.
The US government aims to enhance the security of the global maritime environment through collaboration with allies and partners.
The administration has recently undertaken a variety of actions on this topic, which have spurred efforts to invest in the US from private sector partners around the world.
Through these government and private sector actions, the administration is working to support and create good-paying, permanent jobs in the US shipbuilding sector and to promote US shipbuilding competitiveness.
Private sector partners are stepping up with new investments in the US maritime sector.
The following firms intend to grow or start their operations in the US as a result of recent initiatives taken by the Biden-Harris Administration and US friends and partners: HD Hyundai, Bollinger Shipyards, Davie Shipbuilding, and Konecranes.
The US government has also taken recent steps to encourage American shipbuilding and shipbuilders.
On 10 July, the US Maritime Administration announced $8.75 million in grant awards to 15 small shipyards across 12 states under the Small Shipyard Grant programme. The funding will be used to modernise shipyards, enhance productivity, and create more local jobs.
On 22 July, the Secretary of the Navy unveiled the Michigan Maritime Manufacturing Initiative to strengthen the Navy’s marine industrial base workforce.
This effort will first focus on submarine manufacturing skillsets before expanding to other vessel classes in collaboration with federal, state, municipal, and academic partners.
In February, the Biden Administration announced that it would issue an Executive Order to improve port cybersecurity in the US.
