The Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has activated an anti-drone system to monitor and secure the airspace around the port.

Supplied by Telefónica, the system detects and identifies unauthorised drone activity in real time and alerts State Security Forces (FFCCSE) for enforcement action.

At the core of the system is the Sendes DAU-K10 QD, a rapidly deployable, autonomous unit using passive radio frequency detection to intercept drone communications and decode telemetry.

It can track drones within a 10-kilometre radius and above 500 metres in altitude, identifying both commercial and homemade drones, as well as manned aircraft broadcasting ADS-B signals.

According to PAV, the system detected two unauthorised drones within its first week of operation.

Its deployment comes as drone incursions tend to rise during the summer months, driven by the port’s proximity to tourist areas.

As a designated critical infrastructure site, the Port of Valencia requires prior authorization  for any drone activity in its airspace.

Recently, the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia approved its participation to the Upcycling the Oceans project. The project is promoted by the Ecoalf Foundation and Ecoembes, whose objective is to recover waste from the sea and reintroduce it into the recycling cycle, with the collaboration of the fishing sector.
