The V O Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA) has significantly strengthened its clean energy transition in FY 2025–26, with renewable sources now powering the vast majority of its operations.

VOCPA generated 15.54 million units (MU) of renewable energy during FY26, up from 12.22 MU in FY25, marking a 21.13% year-on-year growth. This surge underscores the port’s accelerating shift toward sustainable energy systems.

Out of a total energy consumption of 16.55 MU in FY26, renewable energy accounted for an impressive 93.89%, a sharp rise from 86.26% in the previous financial year, when total consumption stood at 14.15 MU.

The transition has also delivered tangible environmental gains. VOCPA achieved CO₂ emission offsets of 12,740 metric tonnes (MT) in FY26, compared to 10,020 MT in FY25—an increase of 27.1%. This translates to an additional reduction of approximately 2,720 MT of CO₂ emissions over the previous year.

The latest performance highlights a deeper structural shift at the port, where sustainability is increasingly embedded into core operations rather than treated as a peripheral goal. The steady rise in renewable energy adoption reflects a move from intent to measurable impact.

With clean energy now forming the backbone of its power consumption, VOCPA is positioning itself firmly on the path toward long-term decarbonisation and net-zero ambitions.

The trajectory ahead remains focused: scaling up renewable capacity, further reducing emissions, and embedding sustainability into every layer of port operations.
