A.P. Moller–Maersk has opened a new container depot in Manzanillo, Mexico, following an investment of more than $15 million aimed at strengthening the country’s logistics and landside capacity.

The facility is located 5 kilometres from the Port of Manzanillo, Mexico’s busiest container gateway, which handles nearly half of the nation’s containerised cargo.

The 31,000-square-metre depot, with a capacity of 6,018 TEUs, 50 reefer plugs, 60 repair positions, and the ability to handle dry cargo, reefer, gensets, and 53’ containers, is designed to ease first- and last-mile constraints around the port, supporting faster cargo flows and greater operational resilience.

By expanding capacity at Manzanillo, Maersk is positioning the hub to better support Mexico’s growing role in global and regional trade.

Patricia Perez Salazar, Managing Director for Maersk in Mexico, said: “Manzanillo is one of Mexico’s most dynamic trade hubs, and this investment underscores our commitment to the country’s long-term growth. By offering integrated services — from shunting to transloading and reefer support — we are helping customers simplify their supply chains and strengthen their competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.”

As a primary entry point for cargo from Asia, Manzanillo provides direct connections to Mexico’s key industrial regions, including the Bajío and central corridor, making it a critical node for national supply chains.

Getulio Centanaro Patino, Head of Logistics and Services for Maersk in Mexico, stated: “The last mile is one of the most critical — and most challenging — links in today’s supply chains . Delays and costs are not only disrupting operations but also mean missed opportunities for our customers.

“With this new facility in Manzanillo, we’re creating agility where it matters most—reducing logistics costs, accelerating transit times, and giving businesses better control over their cargo. Ahead of Mexico hosting important global events in 2026, we’re ready to cater to the surge in demand across retail, lifestyle, and technology sectors, ensuring our customers stay ahead of the game.”

The depot provides shunting services to reduce truck idling and terminal congestion, transloading for dry and refrigerated cargo, container flow management to improve inventory planning, and maintenance and repair for both dry and reefer equipment.

Maersk’s footprint in Mexico includes more than 59,000 square metres (sqm) of warehousing in Mexico City and Tijuana, alongside 250,000 sqm of depot capacity across Cuautitlán, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Manzanillo.

In November, Maersk opened its largest contract logistics facility in Asia Pacific, the Maersk Mega Distribution Centre in Malaysia, expanding its warehouse footprint by over 30 per cent.
