The inland port of Gron in France is set to introduce rail freight services, marking a key step toward improving multimodal connectivity and reducing reliance on road transport.

Port authorities said the move will enable more efficient movement of goods between Gron and major seaports and industrial regions, helping to cut transit times, ease road congestion, and lower carbon emissions. The rail link is expected to support a wide range of cargo, including containers, bulk goods and industrial shipments.

The introduction of rail freight aligns with France’s broader push to promote sustainable logistics and shift cargo from road to rail and inland waterways. Industry stakeholders said the development will strengthen Gron’s role as a regional logistics hub and improve supply chain resilience for shippers.

Once operational, the rail services are expected to enhance the port’s attractiveness for logistics providers and manufacturers seeking greener and more reliable transport solutions.
