Pilbara Ports Authority has resumed operations following disruptions caused by Cyclone Narelle, restoring activity across one of Australia’s key bulk export gateways.
Port operations had been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of personnel, vessels, and infrastructure during the cyclone’s impact. With the system now cleared and conditions stabilising, normal shipping movements have gradually restarted.
Authorities confirmed that inspections were carried out across port facilities before reopening, with no major damage reported. Vessel traffic management systems and cargo handling operations have been brought back online in a phased manner.
The resumption is expected to normalise shipments of critical commodities such as iron ore and liquefied natural gas, which are central to Australia’s export economy. Any backlog created during the shutdown is likely to be cleared over the coming days.
Industry participants noted that while weather-related disruptions are common in the region, swift recovery measures and robust infrastructure help minimise long-term impacts on supply chains.
The quick restart of operations underscores the resilience of Pilbara’s port infrastructure and its crucial role in supporting global commodity flows.
