India’s mobility and logistics sector recorded relatively stable trucking activity in April 2026, sustaining the momentum built at the close of the previous financial year, according to the latest industry bulletin released by Shriram Finance Limited.
Truck rentals across major freight corridors remained firm during the month, posting only marginal month-on-month fluctuations while continuing to demonstrate resilience on a year-on-year basis.
Among the key trunk routes, the Delhi–Kolkata–Delhi corridor witnessed an increase of around 2.4 per cent in freight rentals, while the Kolkata–Guwahati–Kolkata route recorded growth of nearly 2 per cent. Other major corridors, including Delhi–Mumbai–Delhi, Mumbai–Chennai–Mumbai, and Bengaluru-linked routes, also reported modest gains, indicating stable freight demand despite seasonal moderation in cargo movement.
The report noted that fuel consumption trends reflected a slight cooling in logistics activity after the financial year-end surge. Petrol consumption declined by nearly 3 per cent month-on-month, while diesel consumption dropped by around 5 per cent, suggesting comparatively lower freight movement and transportation activity during April.
Despite the moderation in conventional freight indicators, the electric mobility segment continued to witness strong expansion across categories. On a year-on-year basis, electric two-wheeler sales surged by 69 per cent, while electric three-wheelers and passenger vehicles registered growth of 106 per cent and 125 per cent respectively, underlining the sustained shift towards cleaner mobility solutions in India.
Air cargo movement across major airports also maintained positive momentum, offering a broader indication of resilient logistics demand. Chennai airport led the growth trend with cargo volumes rising by over 11 per cent year-on-year, followed by Hyderabad at nearly 10 per cent and Bengaluru at close to 6 per cent.
Passenger traffic remained robust in key metropolitan markets such as Bengaluru and Hyderabad, reflecting continued economic activity and travel demand, although trends varied across different cities.
Commenting on the sector outlook, Sudarshan Holla said the fiscal year has begun on a stable note with truck rentals continuing to hold firm. However, he cautioned that peak summer conditions could impact trucking activity and freight movement during May.
