Limited commercial shipping activity has started to return to the Strait of Hormuz after a fourth Malaysia-linked vessel successfully transited the strategic waterway amid ongoing regional tensions. Shipping data showed that the support vessel Sapura 1200, owned by Malaysia’s Vantris Energy, completed its passage through the strait and entered Oman’s Muscat port after sailing close to the Iranian coastline.
The vessel was among seven Malaysian-linked ships for which Kuala Lumpur had reportedly sought transit clearance from Iran as disruptions in the strait continue to impact global energy trade and shipping movements. Malaysian authorities had earlier confirmed that vessels linked to companies including MISC Berhad and Petronas were part of the request for safe passage.
Although traffic through the Strait of Hormuz remains far below normal levels, recent vessel movements indicate a gradual reopening of limited maritime activity. Industry data shows tanker traffic has started to pick up cautiously after weeks of severe disruption caused by the ongoing Iran-related conflict and heightened security risks in the region.
