V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has achieved a historic milestone by handling the highest-ever parcel size in the Port’s history with the berthing of Liberia-flagged vessel MV Star Eva at North Cargo Berth-2.
The vessel carried 1,04,099 tonnes of coal from Richards Bay, South Africa, surpassing the previous record of 93,719 tonnes handled by MV Ince Ankara on 29 August 2021.
M/s Tata International Limited is the consignee for the cargo, while M/s Port and Sea Experts is the steamer agent and M/s BL Transport is handling stevedoring operations for the vessel.
The record-breaking operation highlights the Port’s growing cargo handling capability, operational efficiency, and infrastructure strength, further reinforcing its role in strengthening India’s maritime trade ecosystem.
In another significant development, the Port has also recorded a 6.28% growth in Oil Cake/Copra cargo handling during the period from April 2025 to April 2026, reflecting continued momentum in agricultural and allied trade.
Widely used in the livestock, edible oil, and export sectors, the increase in Oil Cake/Copra cargo movement indicates rising market demand and the Port’s efficient logistics and cargo handling systems.
Backed by modern infrastructure, seamless connectivity, and operational excellence, VOC Port continues to play a vital role in enabling reliable maritime trade and supporting India’s economic growth trajectory.
