The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has announced ground rent relief measures to support importers, exporters and logistics operators affected by truck shortages that have slowed container evacuation and contributed to congestion across port terminals.

The relief comes as a shortage of available trucks and transport equipment has disrupted the movement of containers from terminals, leading to longer dwell times and increased pressure on yard capacity. To ease the financial burden on cargo owners and facilitate smoother cargo flows, JNPA has granted temporary concessions on ground rent charges for eligible containers delayed by the ongoing logistics constraints.

Port officials said the measure is intended to provide immediate support to trade stakeholders facing operational challenges beyond their control. The relief is expected to help importers and exporters manage additional costs arising from delays while ensuring that cargo clearance activities continue with minimal disruption.

Truck availability has come under pressure due to a combination of factors, including increased cargo volumes, regional transport bottlenecks and operational challenges affecting road logistics networks. The resulting slowdown in container evacuation has led to higher terminal occupancy levels and concerns over yard congestion at one of India’s busiest container gateways.

Industry associations and logistics service providers have welcomed the move, noting that temporary cost relief can help mitigate the impact of supply chain disruptions on businesses. Stakeholders have also called for coordinated efforts involving transport operators, terminal operators and government agencies to address capacity constraints and restore normal cargo movement.

JNPA has been working closely with container terminal operators, shipping lines, transport companies and customs authorities to improve cargo evacuation and maintain supply chain efficiency. The port continues to monitor traffic conditions and operational performance to ensure that trade flows remain uninterrupted.

As container volumes continue to grow, industry participants emphasize the need for stronger multimodal connectivity, expanded trucking capacity and greater use of rail-based evacuation solutions to reduce dependence on road transport. The latest relief measures underscore JNPA’s efforts to support the trade community while maintaining efficient port operations during periods of logistical stress.
