The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has introduced a 50% ground rent reimbursement scheme aimed at reducing logistics costs for port users and improving cargo evacuation efficiency amid ongoing operational pressures.

Under the new initiative, eligible importers, exporters and logistics stakeholders will receive a 50% refund on ground rent charges incurred due to delays in container movement. The measure is designed to ease financial burdens arising from higher dwell times at the port and to support smoother cargo flow across terminals.

JNPA said the reimbursement scheme is intended to assist trade participants affected by congestion and supply chain disruptions that have slowed container clearance. By reducing storage-related costs, the authority aims to encourage faster container evacuation and improve yard productivity.

The initiative comes at a time when container volumes continue to remain strong, placing pressure on port infrastructure, trucking availability and inland transport connectivity. Delays in container pickup and movement have contributed to increased dwell times, prompting the need for targeted relief measures.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the decision, noting that cost support measures can help exporters and importers manage cash flow pressures while maintaining operational continuity. Logistics operators also expect the scheme to improve container circulation and reduce bottlenecks at terminal yards.

JNPA has been working closely with terminal operators, shipping lines and transport providers to streamline cargo movement and enhance overall efficiency at the port. The authority continues to explore additional measures to strengthen multimodal connectivity and reduce dependence on road-based evacuation.

The 50% reimbursement initiative is expected to provide immediate relief to the trade community while reinforcing JNPA’s efforts to maintain competitive and efficient port operations. As container trade grows, such interventions are likely to play an important role in balancing infrastructure constraints with rising cargo demand.
