Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade was informed in Parliament that under the ambitious Cruise Bharat Mission (CBM), Mormugao Port recorded 38 cruise ship calls, handled 67,594 passengers and generated Rs 4.82 crore in revenue between October 2024 and June 2025.
Launched on September 30, 2024, the CBM is a strategic initiative by the Government of India to transform the country’s cruise tourism sector. It sets out a comprehensive inter-ministerial framework to address policy, regulatory and operational aspects of the industry.
The mission brings together Customs, Immigration, CISF, State Tourism Departments, Maritime Agencies, District Administrations and local police to ensure smooth operations, while strengthening investor and tourist confidence.
According to the government’s reply in Parliament, one of the CBM’s key performance indicators is the creation of approximately four lakh jobs by 2029, thereby stimulating growth in tourism, hospitality and local entrepreneurship across India’s coastal regions.
The performance of Mormugao Port under the CBM, officials said, underlines the rising potential of cruise tourism and its ability to drive economic development and job creation.
