DP World’s International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) at Cochin achieved a remarkable milestone by handling a record volume of 75,141 TEUs in February 2024, marking a 38 per cent growth compared to February 2023. This substantial increase underscores the pivotal role of ICTT as a preferred gateway and a growing transshipment hub for cargo movement to and from markets in south India.

Cochin serves as a crucial link connecting nearly 50 per cent of EXIM cargo directly to the Middle East, Far East, Europe, and the Mediterranean through mainline services. The terminal also plays a key role in the flow of coastal cargo between the east and west coast of India.

ICTT recently bolstered its capabilities with the commissioning of two state-of-the-art Ship-to-Shore MegaMax cranes, capable of handling up to 25 container rows in width.

Combined with the addition of four e-RTGs and expansions in yard capacity, these enhancements have improved the terminal’s ability to achieve faster vessel turnaround times and ensure sustainable cargo movement. The upgrades have also increased the terminal’s productivity, enabling efficient handling of Ultra-Large Container Vessels (ULCVs).

Praveen Joseph, CEO of DP World Cochin, expressed pride in achieving this milestone shortly after expanding the terminal’s capacity and operational capabilities. He emphasised the commitment to continuous improvement in solutions to meet evolving customer needs, with strong support from the Cochin Port Authority.

Since its establishment in 2011, ICTT has managed a cumulative volume of 6.9 million TEUs. The terminal remains dedicated to its role as South India’s preferred gateway, offering direct service lines to more than 12 ports on both coasts of India and serving multiple international ports.
