The Greek shipping ministry has urged its fleet to bolster security following drone strikes targeting two Greek-operated oil tankers bound for Russian Black Sea ports this week. The advisories come as war insurance costs spike, reflecting the escalating dangers in the region.

Greek-operated vessels form a significant portion of the global shipping fleet, illustrating their critical role in the Black Sea’s trade networks. The region’s waters are critical for several nations, including Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine, where tensions continue to rise.

Affected ships, such as the Matilda managed by Greece’s Thenamaris, have implemented stricter security protocols and advised crews to minimize exposure, particularly on deck. The Greek ministry also referred shipping companies to previously issued guidelines for ports at increased risk.
