MAN Truck & Bus has taken another major step in decarbonising its supply chain by introducing five fully electric MAN eTGX trucks into its inbound logistics network in partnership with logistics provider JS Logistics.
The battery-electric trucks are now transporting supplier components between manufacturing locations in Hungary and MAN production plants in Germany, marking the first deployment of the eTGX in the company’s cross-border inbound logistics operations.
The vehicles operate on both direct full truckload (FTL) routes and consolidated transport services via central logistics hubs. On the approximately 520-kilometre route between Lébény, Hungary, and Munich, Germany, MAN has implemented a relay system in which two trucks travel towards each other and exchange trailers en route, enabling efficient long-distance electric freight operations.
Another eTGX serves consolidated deliveries from the logistics centre in Győr, Hungary, to MAN’s manufacturing facilities, primarily in Munich. In Germany, three additional electric trucks operate from the logistics hub in Kirkel, transporting goods from France, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Ireland to MAN plants in Munich and Nuremberg.
Michael Kobriger, Executive Board Member for Production & Logistics at MAN Truck & Bus, said the deployment demonstrates that zero-emission heavy-duty transport is already viable in day-to-day logistics operations.
“By deploying the eTGX in our own production logistics, we are demonstrating – together with strong partners – that zero-emission heavy-duty transport already works in real-world operations today. We are consistently driving the transformation forward – both for our customers and within our own network,” he said.
The latest deployment forms part of MAN’s broader strategy to decarbonise its inbound logistics network. Since autumn 2024, the company has been progressively integrating battery-electric trucks into its supply chain. MAN’s inbound logistics fleet currently covers up to 165 million kilometres annually, with plans to increase the number of electric trucks in operation to around 50 by mid-2026.
To support the transition, MAN is expanding charging infrastructure across its production facilities and service locations while electrifying additional transport routes throughout Europe. The initiative is complemented by MAN Transport Solutions, which provides customers with end-to-end consulting services covering route analysis, charging infrastructure and operational integration for electric fleets.
The company is also advancing its “Electrifying Outbound” programme, aimed at reducing carbon emissions from vehicle deliveries by 30 per cent by 2030.
The five eTGX trucks were officially handed over at the MAN Truck Forum in Munich by Friedrich Baumann, Executive Board Member for Sales & Customer Solutions at MAN Truck & Bus, to Jerome Schüssler, Owner and Managing Director of JS Logistics.
Schüssler described the introduction of the electric trucks as a significant milestone for the logistics company, highlighting the opportunity to develop sustainable transport solutions while gaining practical experience in cross-border electric freight operations.
