Hapag-Lloyd has suspended its OGS, UG2 and UGS container services as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to disrupt maritime operations and raise safety concerns for vessels operating in the region.
The decision follows heightened risks near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global shipping and energy trade. Shipping companies have increasingly adjusted routes, paused services, and issued advisories to customers as instability in the area affects normal vessel movements.
The suspended loops typically connect key ports in Asia and the Indian subcontinent with Gulf destinations, carrying a wide range of containerized cargo. With the services now halted, shipments may be redirected through alternative routes or transshipment hubs, potentially leading to longer transit times and schedule changes.
Hapag-Lloyd said it will continue to monitor developments closely and review the suspension as conditions evolve. Industry analysts note that several carriers have taken similar precautionary steps to minimize operational risks and protect crews amid ongoing uncertainty in the region.
