Odisha is preparing to make a strong presence at the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 with plans to sign strategic MoUs and unveil the new Odisha Inland Vessel Rules, 2025. The Odisha Maritime Board (OMB), chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, reviewed preparations at its 6th Board meeting on Thursday.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary Industries Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary Commerce & Transport Usha Padhee, and Principal Secretary Finance Sanjib Mishra. The Board finalized a comprehensive roadmap to position Odisha as a hub for sustainable maritime development, focusing on shipbuilding, ship repair and recycling, captive jetty development, port-led industrial growth, and green hydrogen production and export.

During IMW 2025, Odisha will formally unveil the Odisha Inland Vessel Rules, 2025, providing regulatory support for inland water transport. Strategic MoUs are also set to be signed with the Indian Ports Association, Paradip Port Authority, Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Ltd., and the Inland Waterways Authority of India to boost infrastructure, industry, and tourism.

In addition, two key publications will be launched: a coffee table book celebrating Odisha’s maritime journey from ancient Kalinga to its modern ambitions, and a white paper on the Odisha Maritime Perspective Plan, outlining the state’s long-term vision for integrated maritime development.

Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja emphasized Odisha’s potential to emerge as a national and global maritime leader, highlighting sustainable, technology-driven initiatives to drive inclusive growth and revive the state’s historical prominence in maritime trade. The Board resolved to work in mission mode to fast-track ongoing and new initiatives in line with state and national maritime objectives.
